About guest instructor Isabel Jaurez Lopez: Isabel is an Argentine Tango instructor in Corvallis, OR, where she has been teaching and organizing since 2022. Her love for dance runs deep from a very young age, and she is delighted to find herself a part of this work and community. Isabel learned to social dance first with her sister at Chicago Summer Dance, and then developed her skills through Ballroom and Blues dancing in Southern California. In 2010, she discovered Tango, and it became her passion and obsession. After a few years of traveling across the United States to learn as much as she could, she spent a year in Buenos Aires, the homeland of Tango. Her delight with this dance expanded into a deep respect and perspective for its rich musical and cultural context. As a dancer, her focus of teaching are the principles of connection and mechanics of Tango, which prompt the dancer to search for an inner cohesiveness in order to communicate and flow with their partner. Within the fundamental shapes and structure of Tango, we find endless opportunities and patterns for expression, but even more significantly, we learn to move from deep presence and integrity, to truly listen to one another, and to experience together the joy of moving as one.
