Tango Foundations is a cohort of tango students working on the fundamentals of tango. We’re studying technical elements, body mechanics and musicality - the meat and potatoes of your tango dance.
If you are brand new to tango, Foundations is for you. You are encouraged to start with the Foundations of the dance before putting those elements into practice with structures (what we do in Beyond Basics). No experience or partner is required. Feel free to reach out to Jennifer if you have questions about the best time to start.
Foundations isn’t just for beginners. The minute we tell ourselves that studying the foundations is no longer needed, it’s time to start rushing back to the fundamentals. Foundations is for anyone who wants to go deeper into the technical elements of the dance, get reacquainted with the movement or fall in love with tango all over again.
Drops-ins are are welcome and encouraged, but you are welcome to pre-register at Olydance.com
BEYOND BASICS
Dates: Thursday nights in September, October, November, December 2025
Time: 7-8PM
Location: Olympia Eagles (3rd floor), 805 4th Ave E, Olympia
Price: $25 drop-ins/$80 for all four weeks. A discount is available for those wishing to take both Foundations and Beyond Basics. Classes included in OlyDance All-Access Pass.
Prior experience is necessary. This class is for individuals who have spent time in the Foundations cohort or have previous experience with Argentine Tango. If you are unsure if Beyond Basics is for you, please reach out to Jennifer directly. In Beyond Basics, we are putting the movement into practice. We’re using the tool of repertoire to explore what it feels like to dance in unified, musical way. Beyond Basics continues to build upon the fundamental techniques learned in Foundations (technique of walk and embrace), while furthering our understanding phrasing the dance, growing in our understanding of musicality and empowering dancers to “link” or “build” tango phrases (figures) independently to make for a more dynamic dance.
I highly encourage you to take Foundations and Beyond Basics in tandem, especially if you are coming to my classes with previous experience with Argentine Tango but have not studied with me before. It is common for me to take a Foundational concept from the first class and build on it in the second class. I can promise that even an experienced dancer will find concepts necessary and interesting in Foundations if they have not been through this series before.
No partner necessary. Please bring dance shoes (if you are unsure what is an appropriate dance shoe, check out the FAQ page of the website).
Drops-ins are are welcome and encouraged, but you are welcome to pre-register at Olydance.com
