Calo: The Tango Orchestra Series, Sunday, October 26th

The Tango Orchestras: Finding Technique, Quality & Artistry Inside the Music

Join World Embrace Tango for an 8-week series designed to give you an introduction to the major orchestras that define the golden age of tango.

Calo on Sunday, October 26th: Leaders, ever get on the dance floor and about half way feel like you’re repeating moves or running out of things to do? Followers, ever feel like you’re on a hamster wheel and want more clarity, confidence and power in your artistic expression? Allow Miguel Calo and his orchestra to guide you! This month we’re studying the story arch of a tango song- how we create a clear beginning, middle and end to our dance experience. We’ll examine the components of a tango song, look deeper at the layers of the orchestra, and help take the stress out of composing a social dance. Experience the magic, drama, sensationalism, effects and special moments of Calo! It’s ALL there for us with this orchestra, big time!

Series Description:
You’ll discover how the music can lead you straight to the most necessary techniques needed to create a dynamic dance all your own. Learn the quintessential sounds that distinguish each orchestra from another. Put the most important tools for each quality into your body with focused exercises. Discover how to interpret the music as an artist, with strategic insight into the orchestra, their musical structure and their individual styles.

This series will give you tools to speak music as common language in a social setting and freedom to express the dancer within!

Details:
1-3PM Workshop- Each month we’ll study a different orchestra, using it as a tool to explore the three major musical qualities in the body (and their techniques!), understand social floor navigation, study style-specific combinations and develop skills for listening for and interpreting different music styles in a social setting. You’ll receive the history of the orchestra, and be introduced to the most common music played in milongas! You’ll also put crucial qualities needed to dance that orchestra directly into your body with drills and development of solo techniques. You’ll also receive a handful of helpful sequences to take with you on the social dance floor when you hear that orchestra played.

3-4PM Guided Practica- Explore class content with open floor time to orchestra specific music. Get to know the orchestra’s major works and put the day’s lesson into direct practice with friends. We will be available for questions!

Class will occur once a month for 8 weeks-
Fourth Sunday of the month, starting Sunday, March 23rd, ending in December 2025.
